Unique Design Features

All Well Tempered Tables are belt-driven designs that employ revolutionary techniques to produce transparent and very natural sound. Through his extensive research, Bill Firebaugh recognized that traditional turntable designs with their rigid bearings, spring suspensions, and motor assemblies housed within the turntable chassis resulted in too many performance compromises.

The Well Tempered patented zero clearance platter bearing is a hardened, polished spindle supported by a unique five point suspension. The bearing is lubricated and damped by a viscous fluid to ensure constant, stable platter speed. The record clamp screws into the internally threaded spindle and effectively and easily couples the record to the acrylic platter.

The motor is isolated on a separate lead brick base to eliminate motor noise and resulting motor resonances. This highly effective motor isolation is a major contributing factor to the turntable's ability to reproduce what is on the recording without coloration.

The acoustically inert plinth is made of multiple layers of extremely dense material that sandwiches special damping materials which dissipate resonant frequencies in the form of heat.

All Well Tempered Arms control mechanical vibrations by a unique use of damping and the elimination of bearings. Tonearm/cantilever resonances are controlled by a very viscous silicone fluid which, like the zero clearance platter bearing, eliminates the inevitable "chatter" of a rigid bearing system. The degree of damping in Well Tempered Arms may be ideally adjusted for any phono cartridge regardless of mass or compliance. Please refer to the descriptions of each of the Well Tempered Arms and Tables for more details.

Well Tempered Arms and Tables are designed for the discriminating music lover who recognizes that LPs are still rich in musical treasures. The simplicity and reliability of Well Tempered products will extend LP listening pleasure for many years to come.
